NorthStar Communications Group Recognized for Hurricane Katrina Emergency Network Restoration Work
For Immediate Release. February 8, 2006, Birmingham, Alabama: NorthStar Communications Group, Inc. (NorthStar), a leading provider of wireless and wireline infrastructure services, was honored with 2005 Excellence in Construction awards by both the Alabama and Mid-Gulf chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). This marks the second year in a row that NorthStar has received this prestigious award from each of these ABC chapters.

NorthStar was recognized for its Outside Plant Engineering work on the Hurricane Katrina Emergency Network Restoration project. Immediately following the hurricane in late August 2005, NorthStar mobilized its Gulf Coast resources to carriers in rebuilding damaged networks in the hardest-hit areas of Louisiana and Mississippi. By the end of November 2005, NorthStar engineered more than 26 million feet of cable.

The Excellence in Construction Award is based on project-specific criteria including scope of work, personnel management, quality control and, most importantly, project safety record. NorthStar did not experience a single safety incident on this project, despite the hazardous working conditions that resulted from the devastating storm.

NorthStar personnel worked around the clock to help restore communications to the hundreds of thousands of people impacted by Hurricane Katrina. "Receiving Excellence in Construction awards for this work is extremely gratifying," said Bill Johnson, NorthStar's President and CEO. Tom Anderson, NorthStar's senior vice president added, "These awards reflect the continued commitment to safety and quality performance shared by the employees of NorthStar, our parent company BE&K, and our clients."

NorthStar Communications Group, Inc., with corporate headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, serves as the stand-alone telecommunications subsidiary of BE&K, Inc. NorthStar offers a full suite of infrastructure, network, and outsourcing services to the communications industry at large.
