NorthStar Communications Group Launches New Training Facility in Plano

For Immediate Release.  March 6, 2001, Birmingham, Alabama:  NorthStar Communications Group (NorthStar) recently celebrated the opening of the NorthStar Training Center, a state-of-the-art training facility at its Plano, Texas corporate location.  The facility gives NorthStar the ability to train up to 12 employees at one time on technical aspects of the telecommunications business, such as Fujitsu's F L M 150 A D M, Flash 600 A D X, Nortel S / D M S O C - 3/ O C - 12 N E T B M and D S C (now Alcatel) Litespan 2000.

"The NorthStar Training Center will provide our employees with the skill set, or tools, they need to achieve success in this fast-paced industry," said Bill Johnson, president and C E O of NorthStar.  "Because NorthStar is growing at such an incredible rate, we have placed employee education and training at the top of our list of priorities."

NorthStar employees will be encouraged to attend courses offered at the new Plano Training Center.  Course titles include Introduction to Telecommunications, Basic Installation, Telecommunication Test Technician, SONET Overview and numerous others.  The goal of the Training Center is to give each attending employee a unified and multi-leveled set of skills to take back to the work place.

With headquarters in Bellevue, Washington and Birmingham, Alabama, and more than 1500 employees and 83 operations offices across the United States, the NorthStar Plano location seemed ideally situated to serve as the training center for the company.  In addition, it is the telecom corridor to the nation, with more than 800 industry-related businesses headquartered there.

Training is not a new concept to NorthStar.  The company has paved the way for worker education and training within the telecommunications industry in recent years.  In May 2000, it launched NorthStar University, an eight-week crash course for new and existing employees, and has experienced increased employee-retention as a result.

Similar to NorthStar University, the Plano Training Center is open to all employees whose skill set would be broadened by attending the classes.

NorthStar Communications Group, a B E and K company, offers a broad range of communications services, including telecom engineering, construction management, project management, network installation and maintenance and professional staffing.  NorthStar, founded in 1988, was purchased in 1998 by B E and K Inc, a $1 billion leader in engineering and construction and consistently ranked in recent years as one of Fortune magazine's "Top 100 Companies to Work for."
