NorthStar Launches Zero Defects Quality Program

For Immediate Release.  October 25, 2002, Birmingham, Alabama:  NorthStar Communications Group (NorthStar) recently launched their Zero Defects program to promote a new quality-development and incentive program for its employees.  The program is designed to create a working environment that motivates employees to perform at higher levels and to reward those who do.  The goal of the Zero Defects program is to increase customer satisfaction by eliminating technical errors completely.

Initially, Zero Defects will focus on continually improving the quality of work performed by NorthStar's installation technicians.  "Focusing on the commitment to exceed our customer quality objectives will sustain our workforce and advance NorthStar's leadership position in the industry," commented Dean Coons, Executive VP of Operations for NorthStar's Western Region.  "This program will allow NorthStar to more effectively serve our existing and future clients by eliminating re-work which often results in return trips to our client's premises."

The program reinforces NorthStar's culture of "Finding New Ways" by rewarding employees for reaching beyond specific, customer-defined quality targets by achieving zero defects.  The program was launched in September with a campaign focused on NorthStar's Reno, Sacramento, and San Diego office locations.  Each NorthStar service technician responsible for working on a job resulting in Zero Defects, as audited by the client, will receive a $100 SuperCertificate, a gift certificate redeemable at many of the nation's most popular stores, airlines, hotels, spas and restaurants.

Employee performance awards will be distributed monthly, based on the quality audits received from the client.  "The reaction from our field employees has been extremely positive," stated Frank Kiernan, Quality Director for NorthStar's Western Region, "This program is the benchmark for supporting employee development by rewarding dedication to quality performance."

NorthStar is in the process of expanding this program to include all NorthStar clients and office locations.
