NorthStar Provides Enhanced Accessibility for Its Web Site
For Immediate Release. October 20, 2000, Birmingham, Alabama: NorthStar Communications Group, Inc. (NorthStar) announced today the deployment of enhanced accessibility for its Web site, www.northstar.net. The accessibility enhancements make the site's core content friendly to users with vision, hearing, and motor limitations.
"We gladly provide access for the differently abled in our physical space," noted Bill Johnson, president and CEO of NorthStar, "there's no reason why we shouldn't provide the same access in Cyberspace. The technology to facilitate this is well known, yet it's surprising how few Web sites are truly accessible."
The site accessibility enhancements provide parallel content in a high-contrast, low-color, low-graphics format that uses a large, user-resizable font. The content is fully compatible with voice browsers, and navigational elements are simplified to allow access via keyboard, mouse, or alternative input devices. The enhanced pages are designed to conform to the W3C "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0," level A, available at: http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/WAI-WEBCONTENT-19990505
