BellSouth and NorthStar Extend Relationship for Five More Years

For Immediate Release.  November 1, 2000, Birmingham, Alabama:  BellSouth Telecommunications and NorthStar Communications Group are extending the current agreement that provides outside plant engineering services in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi for an additional five years.  "With this being the first significant long-term extension, both companies are now tactically and strategically positioned to realize the benefits of this agreement," says John Benedict, the Network Vice President of BellSouth Telecommunications for Alabama and Mississippi.

"We are very excited with the long-term commitment BellSouth has made with NorthStar.  This allows us the ability to make longer-term investments in our personnel and processes, while improving overall customer service," says Bill Johnson, the President / C E O of NorthStar Communications Group.  "This long-term agreement will benefit NorthStar by positioning us as the premier employer and provider of outside plant engineering services in our market."

The agreement has been amended to include flexible options by which BellSouth can use alternative means to manage special projects needing outside plant engineering services.  "The enhancements to this agreement should provide both parties with an opportunity to meet the needs of our customers," says Rudy Christian, the Network Vice President of BellSouth Telecommunications for Louisiana.  "These needs can be met by achieving the enhanced performance incentives to provide a high quality and timely product.  In addition, top performance by NorthStar will in turn provide benefits to BellSouth which will reduce the cost related to expedited service orders and overall workload churn."

"I am very pleased that we have the opportunity to continue our alliance with BellSouth for five additional years," says G. Dean Coons, the Executive Vice President / C O O of NorthStar Communications Group.  "We have come to understand and appreciate the importance of our outside plant engineering services in helping BellSouth achieve their service level and financial objectives, and to effectively compete as the provider of choice.  Our team is committed to provide continuous improvement, high quality and timely service."  The new agreement will become effective on January 1, 2001 and remain in effect until December 31, 2005.
